"JiZzed" 2019

Acrylic, Heavy Body Medium, Gold Pigment, Inked Pen on Cotton Canvas

This piece was originally a sketch of a six feet sculpture that the artist was planning to build out of materials such as paper mesh. I tried to take a small step of my comfort zone here; instead of working around colours/elements that would be considered as aesthetically pleasing, I wanted to create a work that out make someone gag and barf. As a result, i decided to work around my unexplored fear for the exchange of body fluids; where one's snot comes in contact with the other's exposed eyeball, where one's semen falls into another's opened mouth. While letting my imagination run wild with this piece, I thought about ways to make this piece look more socially acceptable if it were to be a sculpture installed in a public, open space of a dystopian world. I thought about the obsession over everything golden when it comes to art; the proof of being a part of the upper class society and a sophisticated background is usually painted out in gold. Hence, I decided to highlight the 'body fluids' in gold, adding a touch of dark humour to the work, and also pinpointing it as the main presenting element of the art itself.
